Scientific Advisory Board Members

Dr. Andrea Marzi
Dr. Andrea Marzi is a senior investigator at the NIAID Laboratory of Virology, known for her pioneering work on filovirus vaccines, including the VSV-EBOV vaccine. Her research focuses on filovirus pathogenesis, virus-host interactions, and developing countermeasures for emerging pathogens, earning her recognition from the German Society of Virology with the Loeffler-Frosch Award in 2019.

Prof. Dr. Thomas Schulz
Prof. Dr. Thomas Schulz is a renowned virologist who led the Institute of Virology at Hannover Medical School from 2000 to 2024. His research focuses on human herpesviruses, including KSHV/HHV8, and he is a leading figure in chronic infection research as spokesperson of the Collaborative Research Center 900 and the RESIST Excellence Cluster. He also coordinates the “Infections in Immunocompromised Hosts” research area at the German Center for Infection Research (DZIF).

Prof. Dr. Christa Thöne-Reinke
Prof. Dr. Christa Thöne-Reinke is a professor of animal welfare, behavior, and laboratory animal science at Freie Universität Berlin. Her expertise in veterinary medicine and animal welfare is recognized nationally, where she serves on multiple committees, including the Animal Welfare Committee of the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture, and internationally, through her roles in COST Action networks and various other scientific boards.
